Founding Mainframe Architect
Remote, with occasional London meetings
You will be the person who knows mainframes at first hand. You will decide which systems we take on, how we scope them, and what the engine needs next, lead pilot delivery with the founder, and be the technical voice in front of a bank's architects and engineers.

What you will do
- Scope design-partner pilots: choose a bounded, low-risk component and agree what is in and out of scope
- Read real COBOL, copybooks and batch jobs, and judge where a migration is likely to break
- Work with the founder on delivery: migrate the component, run it against recorded behaviour, and walk the client through the evidence
- Define what the engine must support next, including CICS, DB2, VSAM and JCL
- Represent Montora in technical conversations with bank engineering, architecture and risk teams
- Help build the first reusable pilot method, templates and case studies
What we are looking for
- Hands-on COBOL or mainframe experience in a bank, insurer or consultancy
- Has worked on a real migration, modernisation or decommission, and knows where they go wrong
- Fluent in batch processing, copybooks and financial calculation logic
- Able to explain technical risk clearly to engineers and executives
- You move fast on live work and finish what you start
Nice to have
- Experience with testing, verification or parallel-run approaches
- Background in Java, Python or C#
- Experience delivering in a regulated environment
- Existing relationships in bank technology teams
